positive behaviour guidance
We see it as important to build positive relationships of trust between children and educators at all times and to support children to take responsibility for their own behaviour. We promte positive behaviour through praise and encouragement and have consistent expectations of children's behaviour.
If a child displays inappropriate behaviour educators will follow these guidelines:
- Each child shall be treated with dignity and respect at all times.
- Every child is given positive guidance promoting appropriate behaviour, having regard to the child's stage of development.
- The child will be given praise and encouragement as often as possible for appropriate behaviour.
- No harsh language or degrading responses will be used by educators.
- No child will be physically ill treated, immobilised, solitary confined or deprived of food or drink, warmth, protection or shelter.
- Educators use their knowledge of the child to determine what action should be taken.
- Educators will reflect on the centre environment and interactions that may be impacting on children's behaviour.
- Whenever possible, educators will give each child a voice before going further to ascertain what really happened before implementing the behaviour plan.
- Children will be supported to take responsibility for their own behaviour.
