settling in to young explorers

Upon enrolment at Young Explorers, your child will be appointed a key caregiver and children under two years of age will have a primary caregiver. These educators will be responsible for settling you and your child into the daily routines of the centre.

Young children can often find the settling process challenging as they are adapting to a new and unfamiliar environment. This can be a distressing time for both parent and child.

The following ideas can ease the transition from home to the centre.

  • Aim to have at least three visits to the centre environment before your child is expected to attend.
  • At these visits get to know your child's educators and key caregiver.
  • Let us know about your child's interests so we can engage them within the centre.
  • If possible stay during the first stages of the transition until your child is happily settled into an activity, or with an educator or peer.
  • Children are welcome to bring a special toy or cuddly that may assist the settling process.
  • Parents are encouraged to say "goodbye" and inform their child that they will be back at a certain time to collect them.
  • Parents are welcome to ring the centre during the day and find out how their child is settling.
