At Young Explorers we value the aspirations of our families and whanau. Parents are encouraged to work in partnership with educators and be actively involved in their child's learning journey. We believe a partnership between the centre and the community is paramount and that it provides children with a sense of citizenship and belonging.
We regard the environment as the third teacher. Children are encouraged to actively explore and investigate their surroundings. Their play will be guided by educators whom will work alongside them facilitating their learning, provoking their curiosity and devleoping their capacity to make meaning of the world around them.
Learning will be a fun exciting journey our curriculum will be child-centered and will extend on interests and events that take place in the family, the community and the wider world. Educators will embrace the teachable moments and children's interests will lead their learning.
Young Explorers approaches child development, education and care in a holistic manner; we focus on developing children's learning dispositions. We believe dispositions such as perserverance, curiosity, courage, resiliency, compassion and confidence are qualities that we want to see in our youngest citizens. We strongly believe a mixed age centre encourages children to be empathetic, tolerant and understanding leaders. These dispositions are the foundations for children to engage in lifelong learning so they learn how to think, reason and question their ever changing world.
