By providing babies with interesting and stimulating sensory play experiences they have the opportunity to feel, see, mouth and manipulate objects acquiring knowledge that will lay the foundations for further learning.
To decide on a project we look closely at the children's interests, community or world events or teacher's interest. Once we can see that the children are losing interest we move onto a new project. Sometimes an interest may start with one topic and the children lead us in a completely different direction. It is great as every day can be different and we are able to do lots of spontaneous experiences and walks. Once the project is complete we compile all of the documentation into project books which we have on display in the foyer. If your child was involved in a particular experience they will generally have a copy of the learning story/ies in their portfolio. We also display project work on the walls and have ordered a mobile noticeboard that will display the initial planning for the project, the children involved and an area for you to comment on how this links to your child's life at home.
Every child has a clear file portfolio that documents their learning. These precious books of memories are a collaboration of learning stories, project documentation, observations, photos, artwork and discussions and parents/whanau voice. These portfolio's belong to you and your child and we welcome your aspirations and dreams for your child, drawings, photos and stories that make visible the links between your home and the centre. You are encouraged to regularly take this home, share them with family and make contributions. We ask that you sign the learning portfolio's in and out so we can ensure they don't become lost; if a learning portfolio is lost it can be replaced by parents.
