our centre programme

The foundations of our programme are based on Te Whaariki, New Zealand's Early Childhood Curriculum. This curriculum is about the aspirations for children to grow up as competent and confident learners and communicators, healthy in mind, body and spirit, secure in their sense of belonging and in the knowledge that they make a valued contribution to society (Ministry of Education 1996).

At Young Explorers we believe children learn by doing what they love and are interested in. Our program evolves from children's strengths and interests, which educators notice, recognise and respond to by providing challenging and thought provoking experiences.

Our centre is inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood where:

• Children's creativity, activity and thinking is valued and captured through documentation
• Projects are developed from children's interests or teachers passions
• Children use a variety of creative mediums to express themselves
• Children are encouraged to work and think together
• Educators utilise their skills to provoke children's curiosity
• Parents and families knowledge is invited and implemented into the program
• Children are provided with beautiful open-ended resources in an ever changing aesthetically pleasing environment
